Friday 13th Part 3 3D

Friday the 13Th Part 3 starts off the day after the events of part 2 where Ginny and Jason have their final showdown, this installment in the Friday the 13Th franchise follow a groups of friends Chris her boyfriend Rick, the pregnant Debbie and her boyfriend Andy, Vera who is setup with Shelly and the two stoners Chuck and Chili.

The group of kids are headed out to Chris Higgins family cabin Higgins's Haven for a weekend of fun and... murder, not long after arrival Rick surprises Chris when she comes into the cabin scaring her almost to death and later Shelly almost scares her to death when he pretends he has been murdered.

Vera and Shelly head into town to go to the store and while their are confronted by a bike gang consisting of Loco, Ali and Fox, upon leaving Shelly runs over Ali's motorcycle, the gang then follow Shelly back to the cabin and siphons their gas from the Chris' van so they can burn down the barn, but before any of this happens Jason get to them.

That Night Chris and Rick are out in the woods alone, talking out their problems and this is when Chris tells Rick for the first time what happened to her in the woods a couple of years before(this had been hinted several times in the movies), she proceeds to tell Rick that when he dropped her off a couple of years before from a date, that when she went in her parents were waiting up for her as she was out passed curfew and got into huge fight resulting in Chris' mom slapping her, as punishment to her parents Chris runs away into the woods, as to make he parents worry, well she ends up falling asleep under a tree and then is awakened to the sound of footsteps that she thinks is her father, but turns out to be Jason, she fights and fights and fights but Chris ends blacking out and waking up the next day at home, and the event her parents refuse to even acknowledge even happened.

Well upon Chris and Rick's return they find the cabin empty and the lights out so they begin to investigate, but when Rick and Chris are separated Jason kills Rick by crushing his head and resulting in his eye popping out of his head, Jason then throws Rick's body through the living room window at Chris, who then flees to her van, but it stalls(from the gas being siphoned out earlier) she then runs to the barn, where the final showdown between Chris and Jason takes place, when Chris finally thinks she has killed Jason by hanging him on the rope from the loft and pushing out of the top floor, she goes down and opened the barn down and sees him hanging their and then for the final jump he moves and lifts himself off the rope and revealing his face, which Chris immediately recognizes as the same man who attacked her two years earlier.

Review:

Out of the original 8 Friday the 13Th's Part 3 comes in 3rd out of my favorites, acting not that grand, character development not good, Chris and Rick are hardly in it until the end, Chili and Chuck have like 3 scenes and only 1 that has any substance to it, and also the look to be a lot older than the rest of the group a lot older especially Chuck, Vera is sorta the loner, Andy and Debbie are gone most of the time and then their is Shelly who always aggravates everyone, but he's a good guy, but just doesn't have good self-esteem.

Putting all that aside though its just a lot of fun and it sets itself apart from the other Friday the13Th's, it's not set at a camp, theirs not any counselors, just a group of friends going to a cabin for the weekend and it plays more on suspense in this film, the opening with the husband and wife store owners builds quite a bit of suspense almost on the lines like Halloween, and it also has a completely different feel to it than the 2 before and the 7 sequels following and also lets not forget this is the one where Jason dons the hockey mask for the first and thus making Jason a iconic horror killer and a household name and also IT'S IN 3D!!!!!!

OK, onto the most recent release of Friday the 13Th Pt. 3 that was released I believe last week. The only feature the new release has is the 3D version of the movie that's it, NO behind the scenes, deleted scenes or commentary if you want that buy a another version of the movie or the box set of Friday the 13Th series, picture and sound quality are the same as that which is on the other DVDs and also on the box set version. So if you already have a copy of this and don't want the 3D version then don't buy this cause that's all your gonna get, but if you a big Friday the 13Th fan then this is a must have, so run out and get your copy now.

Stand out 3D moments:

the eyeball the old guy shows the group of friends, the rat on the plank, Rick's eyeball popping out of his head and the spear that goes into Vera's head.

The Kills:

Shelly: Jason slits his throat and takes his hockey mask, which he still wear to this day and made Jason a horror icon

Vera: she gets a spear through the left eye

Andy: He gets split down the middle with a machete while walking on his hands

Debbie: Debbie is stabbed from beneath her hammock(reminiscent of Kevin Bacon's death in F13 part 1) while reading a issue of Fangoria

Chuck: Killed in the cellar while looking at the fuses

Chili: Impaled by a hot fireplace poker

Rick: Jason crushes him with his bare hands and popping his eye out of his head

Review: Return to Sleepaway Camp

It's summer camp as usual at Camp Manabe where the kids torment each other for fun while the underpaid camp staff provide as little supervision as possible. Greedy camp owner Frank (Vincent Pastore) and junior partner Ronnie (Paul DeAngelo) do their best to keep everyone in line, but something sinister is about to put a slash in the roster. When campers and staff mysteriously begin disappearing and turning into gruesome corpses, paranoid Ronnie can't shake the memory of a series of grisly murders that took place at Camp Arawak where he worked 2 decades ago. Has a "ghost" from the past come back to haunt him? As the paranoia worsens, Ronnie's list of possible killers starts growing just like the body count. Everyone becomes a suspect from vicious kids to shady members of the camp staff, and even former Camp Arawak camper Ricky (Jonathan Tiersten) who mysteriously works nearby. Who is knocking off these victims and why? Only one thing is for certain, something is carving a bloody new trail at Sleepaway Camp where kids can be so mean and surviving this summer is gonna be a real killer!

The movie starts out with three boys in their cabin lighting farts, Alan the protagonist in the film shows up and wants to try he craps himself trying to light the fart and the kids make fun of him and he becomes enraged and threatens them with the lighter by spraying bug spray onto the flame, counselor Randy shows up and Alan freak and runs out. Later at the social Alan starts a fight with Randy resulting in him getting ice cream, as he is in the kitchen Mickey the cook begins to bully Alan throwing eggs at him and then Alan mad again throws a knife at Mikey narrowly missing his head, Mickey is killed later that night. Later during the social Alan his tricked into smoking cow crap that he think is marijuana, by a kid named Weed, again later that night Weed is killed. The bullying of Alan continues on and becomes work as the week goes on, first being shot during a paintball war, then Michael makes Alan look like a sick twisted freak in order to steal Karen away from Alan, and Alan is given a wedgie by T.C. and Chooch in front of everyone at the waterfront. That very evening, Michael, T.C., and Marie force Karen to lure Alan to the back of the stage, where they rip his clothes off, tie him up, blindfold him and embarrass him in front of everyone at the social.

Ronny who was counselor at Camp Arawak when the murders happened their by a camper named Angela is now becoming even more paranoid starting to believe that a counselor named Petey is the killer because she is for some reason always around when Alan is getting bullied, he accuses her and then she runs out and you for some reason never see her again even though she wasn't killed, Ronny then becomes more and more paranoid as the movie goes on starting to accuse most of everyone even Angela's(the killer in the first sleepaway camp) cousin Ricky who works rather close to the camp. As the killing ensues everyone starts to believe that it is Alan who his killing everyone as he is the one who is always picked on and also has threatened people. Now the kills continue on from this point until the end of the movie, which has a twist ending but not that much of a twist, nothing compared to the ending to the original Sleepaway Camp, Michael finally finds Alan after he ran off from the last prank hiding at is spot int he woods, which is where you find out that Alan is not the killer, he doesn't even know that people have been killed, Michael though beats the crap out of Michael almost killing when the real killer shows up and knock him, later everyone finds them both out in the woods and then the killer reveal themselves.

Spoiler Alert:

The Killer turns out to be Sheriff Jerry the cop that has been at the camp most of the movie and is always their when the murders happen, who is actually Angela dressed in drag as the Sheriff at the end of the movie she says that kids are still mean, cruel and deserve all that they got.

End Spoiler

The Kills:

1. Mickey: head first into the deep fryer

2. Weed: filled with gas and explodes when he has a lit cigarette place in to his mouth

3. Frank(camp owner) Has a bird cage place onto his head and filled with rats that inevitably eat him

4. Randy: tied to a tree and has twine tied around his penis and attached to his jeep which Linda drives away in thinking that Alan is their to kill them which results in him getting his penis yanked off

5. Linda: drives into barb-wire that the killer has set up between two trees stretching it across the road, the bard wire wraps round her face and she then drives into a tree.

6. T.C.: he gets spike through the eye, it doesn't kill him at first,, so he freak out running around and then runs into a wall and it drives the spike all through his head.

7. Bella: she is laying in her bed the bottom bunk, when she notices that the bunk above is covered in nails pointing in her direction, then the killer jumps from the rafter on the top bunk falling onto Bella and impaling her with bunches of nails.

8. Michael: he was skinned alive.

This was really good movie for a sequel that was made over 20 years later, it really delivers the goods, great gore some pretty good kill scenes. The movie also has good pacing not a whole lot of crap going before, the movie pretty much picks up a week or so after camp starts, so everyone know everybody and you come into the middle of it all. Acting though is a bit mediocre, but that makes a good low-budget horror film, it does get a little repetitive on the Alan getting bullied scenes but I can see why they did that, they really want to set Alan as being the killer which of course he is not, and also when it comes Alan don't expect to like him he is whiny, annoying as says stupid things to people like your ass stinks, for the lead this isn't really what you want to go for but you do feel a bit sorry for him not much but a bit , enough so that it makes the movie bearable. Actually everyone in this movie were real jerks except for Ronny and Petey, everyone bullied Alan and were extremely disrespectful to any authority figure, but that does show how a lot of kids are these days. It was awesome that they brought Ronny back from the first to be in this one, Ronny is just cool that's all you can say. It does has a different feel from the original sleepaway camp, but I find that to be a good thing, cause if I want that I would just watch the original, it may not have the same feel but it has the same spirit of the first Sleepaway Camp. I found it extremely entertaining and fun, I do recommend buying this film as I will be doing the same here soon.

Review: Mirrors

This is the story of Ben Carson a suspended police officer who gets a job as the nightwatchman at the department store Mayflower which is closed down due to a fire. Ben noticed aside from the entire inside being completely gutted by a fire that all the mirrors are spotless. As the night goes on all runs smooth, until his first round through the building by himself, as he makes his rounds he comes across a giant mirror in the lobby and begins to notice hand prints all over the mirror(which was spotless earlier) and he begins to try and clean the mirror but the hand prints won't wash off, as he continues to clean the mirror he hears a woman scream, he follows the scream which bring him to a dressing room where their is no one, he then realizes that he can only see this person through a mirror.

This continues until one night as Ben Carson is at work, his sister Angela(Amy Smart)is at home taking a bath and as she prepares for her bath she is looking at herself in the, but as she turns away her reflections stay their and stares at her, now as she is in the bathtub here reflection acts of it's own accord and grab the upper and lower parts of it's own jaw and begins to pull and the a real Angela feels the effects as her lower jaw is completely torn of from her head. When Ben finds out she is dead he goes back to the Mayflower and tries to break the mirrors unsuccessfully as it repairs itself, he becomes frustrated and yell "What do you want from me" and the glass begins to crack and it spells the name "ESSEKER".

Ben has detective friend of his look up the Name Esseker and it comes back a girl named Anna Esseker , who was patient at St. Matthews Metal Hospital, which is conveniently located underneath the MAYFLOWER. Ben get her file and it says that she was killed while in the hospital but at further inspection, he find that her Dr. had doctored(no pun intended) her file and she was actually released two days before the supposed accident. Ben tracks her down and Anna is living in a Monastery where mirrors are banned, She tells Ben that the Dr. had diagnosed her with split personality and as a way to cure her put her in a room with mirrors all around her, this was supposed to make her confront the other perosnality which would cure her, as it really turns out to be Anna was actually possessed and the demon had left her and went into the mirrors and had been awaiting her return since, Ben the explains to her what is going and what has happened to the other nightwatchmen and he tell about his sister and his family she says she would pray for him and his family and that was all she could do, then at this point Ben takes Anna at gunpoint from the monastery and back to the MAYFLOWER.

He takes Anna into the basement of the MAYFLOWER and she goes into the room with mirrors and she sits their you can see the demons pushing at the glass(a lot like when Freddy in a nightmare on elms street pushes on the wall) at which point all hell breaks loose and the demons reenter Anna and she becomes possessed and tried and kills Ben after lengthy little battle Ben finally overcomes Anna and kills her, but also becoming trapped inside the building and the audience thinks he is dead, but this is Keifer Sutherland they won't kill him off will they? Nope, but he also isn't in this world anymore, Ben has passed between worlds and is now inside the mirrors.

Alexandre Aja directed this remake(his second remake) and he could have done a lot much better, after his film Haute Tension, he could've done a lot of things and the two films he chooses next are remakes, his first The Hills Have Eyes which was a good film the original was way better, I would suggest save your money and just buy the original and of course the current movie under the microscope Mirrors.
Mirrors is a halfway decent horror film for a polished Hollywood release. One thing I did like about it was that even though it did have a well-known lead(Keifer Sutherland) it was still able to build suspense, as an avid fan of horror I have come to find that most horror movies that have well-known celebrities usually don't build enough tension and suspense, because for the most part you know that chances are they will live in some way or another. Now for anyone who didn't know this is a remake of an Asian film called INTO THE MIRROR, I personally have not seen the original, but more likely than not it is probably better that the remake, but as it is I am reviewing the remake and will try to stay on topic.

The ending was a quite a bit predictable, as you know chances of them killing Keifer off are slim, but at the same time it is horror movie and they want to end on a down note. All in all though it was watchable, I would not buy it and chances are I won't watch it again either it was good but not a two-timer though.

I give it 2 out of 4
